Frequently Asked Questions
I. About Sevenoseven
A. What is Sevenoseven?
Sevenoseven is a community of young adults who have found the amazing life that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. We're convinced that the best life possible is the life that Jesus brings; a life full of hope, peace, purpose, and joy.
Our vision and charge is to impact young adults - both single and married - for Christ in the Greater Cleveland area. The invitation is to come together with others that want real life answers, a place to hang out, and a sense of community that is authentic.
It is unapologetically Christ-centered, exalting Jesus who has rescued each generation. Sevenoseven exists to build fresh faith into the lives of a generation that at times has been abandoned by their family, their friends, and even their church.
Sevenoseven exists to tell young adults about solid hope. God has not abandoned them. It exists to fill a gap in our time. Many in our generation have felt left out at church. They want and need to express their faith in service, community, and worship. Sevenoseven gives identity and recognition to the emerging generation.
B. What does the name “Sevenoseven” mean?
Sevenoseven derives it’s name from one of our favorite passages in our favorite book. The Bible. In the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 7, verse 7, Jesus says “Ask, and you will receive. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.”
C. How did Sevenoseven get started?
Sevenoseven began as an idea in the minds of Pastor Rick Duncan and Dale Piscura, an idea to begin meeting the needs of the college-age young adults of Cuyahoga Valley Church.
Sevenoseven began meeting in June of 2002 in an attic classroom at the church, with a small group of friends committed to living life together and passionately pursuing the person of Jesus Christ.
In August of 2002 the church realized the need for a full-time leader of this rowdy group of young people and Dan Burgoyne was brought on to lead. In January of 2003 he met and invited worship leader, Ryan Wilkins, to be a part of the new group.
For the first 4 months of 2003 an incredible effort was made to announce the beginning of the public ministry of Sevenoseven. We opened our doors on April 6, 2003 and were thrilled as we watched what God was doing in our community.
For the last 4 years, we’ve seen hundreds of young people’s lives change. They’ve changed from hurt, loss, hopelessness and have found the peace, hope, joy, and love that can be found nowhere but in the person of Jesus Christ.
In September of 2006, Andy Sikora assumed the role of Teaching Pastor at Sevenoseven and immediately led us into an in-depth teaching of Matthew 5; examining the Beatitudes and what defined the character of Jesus, and from the Teachings of Christ we see the beautiful life that God wants each and every one of us to live.
We’re excited and hopeful, continually believing that the best days of Sevenoseven are yet to come.
D. Where is Sevenoseven headed in the future?
As we continue to love and worship the God of all Glory and His Son, Jesus Christ, we trust that He will lead us on in His perfect plan.
We believe that in the upcoming years, Sevenoseven will be instrumental in reaching out to our neighborhoods and cities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope that comes with knowing Him.
We believe that Sevenoseven will increasingly find ways to love our neighbors by demonstrating the love that has been shown to us; the love of Jesus Christ.
We believe that Sevenoseven will train and disciple the people in our community to now merely have lives of empty religion, but to actively walk with Christ, and care about the things that Christ cares about; mainly reaching and helping the poor, the outcast, the neglected, the hurting, the forgotten.
We believe that as Sevenoseven chases the vision that God has given us, we will continue to see the beauty of changed lives for the Glory of God.
